The Ari HaKadosh said of this work that it is the key to the entire Torah of Sod. Reb Chaim of Volozhin, the foremost disciple of the Gra, likewise stated that in order to fulfill the obligation of studying Kabbalah, one should study Shaarei Orah. B. Magen Dovid – a commentary on the letters of the Hebrew alphabet according to Kabbalah, by Reb Dovid ben Zimra (the Radbaz). Amsterdam, [1713]. First edition. At the beginning of the work is a lengthy introduction by the editor, Reb Moshe Chagiz of Jerusalem, who also added his glosses to the volume. The Bibliographical Institute database notes that, based on the typeface, the main body of the book (52 leaves) was printed by Nathaniel Pua, while the first four leaves were printed by Asher Anshel. Including Me'orei Or – an explanation of the appellations of the Divine Names according to the writings of the Ari, by Reb Meir Paporish, with the commentary Ya'ir Nesiv by Reb Nosson Neta Mannheim and Reb Yaakov Vilna, together with separate introductions by the authors. At the beginning of the volume are numerous approbations by the rabbis of Jerusalem and Chevron, Egypt, Venice, Frankfurt, Prague, and elsewhere. Also printed are poems by the author and the editor.
