Magnificent Copy! - Tikkun Sofrim — Order of the Parshiyos, printed at the initiative of the affluent men, Chazan Shmuel Rodriguez Mindez, Moshe Tzarfati di Girona, and Dovid Gomish da Silua, with approbations, piyyutim and various songs, and an elaborate engraved title page. At the beginning of Chumash Bereishis, several leaves were printed containing various piyyutim and poems. A fine printing of the Five Books of the Torah, on superior-quality paper with wide margins. At the beginning of the volume — an elaborate copper-plate title page, the work of the renowned French artist Bernhard Picart (1673–1733), among the greatest engravers and book illustrators in Europe during the 17th–18th centuries. His copper engravings achieved distinction also in the world of Hebrew printing. His signature appears at the foot of the title page, alongside the year of the engraving’s creation — 1725. This deluxe edition, in the finest tradition of the Amsterdam printing houses, was produced at the initiative of distinguished wealthy members from the Sephardic community of Amsterdam. The figures appearing on the title page — Moshe, Shmuel, and Dovid — allude to the names of the patrons responsible for publishing the Chumash.
