On the title page appears his signature: “Shlomo Yehudah b”R Pesach Tzvi, ” along with his stamp, which also appears within the volume. The Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Yehudah Leib Tabak: among the foremost halachic authorities of Hungary in his generation, renowned for his works Erech Shai and Teshuras Shai, and one of the leading disciples of the Yitav Lev. Born in Sighet, Marmaros district, to Rabbi Pesach Tzvi Tabak. In his youth he studied in Gorlitz under Rabbi Yekusiel Yehudah Teitelbaum, author of Yitav Lev, and subsequently under Rabbi Avraham Yehudah Schwartz, author of Kol Aryeh. He later studied in the elite yeshivah in Sighet. In 5618 [1858], upon the appointment of his teacher, the Yitav Lev, as Rabbi of Sighet, he was appointed alongside him as chief dayan and served in this position for approximately fifty years. He passed away on 11 Teves 5668 [1907] and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Sighet. Details: [1], 108, 37, [1], 98, 60, 25, 11 leaves. Minor tear to title page; repairs to a single leaf.
