Avos D'Rabi Nosson”, 1723. Splendid in holiness, a copy owned by the righteous Rabbi Dovid’l Tolner zt”l. - Sefer “Avos D’Rabi Nosson”, Zolkiew, 5483 [1723], formerly owned by the holy Rebbe R. Dovid of Tolna zt”l. On the endpaper appears an ownership inscription: “This book belongs to the righteous gaon, crown of our head, our teacher R. Dovid n.y. of Vasilkov.” Vasilkov was the town where R. Dovid of Tolna first assumed leadership as Admor in 5597 [1837] after the passing of his father, before later transferring his court to Tolna. Among Ukrainian Jewry he was widely known as “R’ Dovid’l Vasilkover, ” and a folk song circulated describing his move to Tolna: “R’ Dovid’l, R’ Dovid’l Vasilkover… and now he is in Tolna.” The holy Rebbe R. Dovid Twersky of Tolna (1808–1882), sixth son of the R. Mordechai of Chernobyl, and a disciple of the R. Avraham Yehoshua Heshel of Apt, served as Admor in Vasilkov before relocating his court to Tolna due to governmental persecution. Among his followers was his nephew, R. Mordechai Dov of Hornosteipel, son-in-law of the R. Chaim of Sanz and author of Emek She’eilah. In 5642 [1882], R. Dovid summoned his followers to spend Shabbos Parashas Acharei Mos with him, during which he passed away in sanctity. An interesting ownership inscription appears on the endpaper: “This Sefer Avos D’Rabbi Nosson belongs to the distinguished, seasoned, pious and wise scholar, R. Pinchas n.y., son of the righteous and renowned holy man, the divine saint R. Yisrael Avraham zt”l.” New thick, regal embossed leather binding. Specifications: [2], 30 leaves [final pagination irregular]. Restored worming. Margin trimming affecting some headings and marginal additions. Paper repairs to margins of title page and several leaves. Stains. Good condition.
