Personal Stamp of The Holy Rabbi LEvi Yitzchak Schneerson zy”a, Av Beis Din Podobrankah and Beishenkovitz. Great-grandfather of the last Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn zt”l. - The seal is impressed with his holy name: “Levi Yitzchak, son of the Gaon R' Baruch Shalom Schneersohn.” An impression in wax from this seal is preserved in the Chabad Library. The holy Rabbi, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneersohn, was born in 1834 to his righteous holy father Rabbi Baruch Shalom, known as the Rashab, and his wife Mrs. Radzia. Rabbi Baruch Shalom was the eldest son of the Tzemach Tzedek of Chabad. He was born in 1806 and was greatly beloved by his grandfather the Baal HaTanya, and was closely attached to him in all his ways. Rabbi Baruch Shalom also accompanied his father the Tzemach Tzedek on his travels. After the passing of the Tzemach Tzedek in 1866, the question arose as to who would succeed him; the accepted ruling was that the youngest son, Rabbi Shmuel, known as the Maharash, was chosen to fill his father the Tzemach Tzedek’s place. Rabbi Baruch Shalom nevertheless decided to remain in Lubavitch and to be a faithful chassid of his younger brother. He passed away in 1869. In this great father’s home, the holy Rabbi Levi Yitzchok was raised. Upon reaching marriageable age, he married Mrs. Shima. She was also considered an important woman, and it is recorded that on the eve of Rosh Hashanah 1866 she went together with her mother-in-law Mrs. Radzia to receive the blessing of the Tzemach Tzedek. Rabbi Levi Yitzchok also merited serving as chazzan with his grandfather the Tzemach Tzedek, and later with his uncle, the Rebbe Maharash. Rabbi Levi Yitzchok served as rabbi of the town Podobrankah, located between Homel and Chernigov in Ukraine, where he led the community for several years until the end of his life, when he was appointed rabbi in the town Beishenkovitz (Vitebsk province). Shortly after his arrival there he became ill and traveled to Kiev for medical treatment, where he passed away on 22 Teves 5638, still in the prime of his life at only forty-four years old, and was buried there.
