Rare! Shaar HaMayim leHaRashba. Copy owned by the author of Minchas Elazar. Budapest, 5693 [1933]. - Sefer “Shaar HaMayim” on the laws of mikva’os by the Rashba — “Shaar HaMayim of the Rashba z”l, ” published here for the first time from an ancient and unique manuscript found in the manuscript treasury of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, by Dovid Shmuel Levinger. A rare and uncommon pamphlet. On the title page and within the sefer appear ownership stamps of the Admor of Munkacs, author of Minchas Elazar. The Admor, R. Chaim Elazar Shapira of Munkacs, author of Minchas Elazar (1872–1937), the third Rebbe of the Munkacs dynasty, one of the great Torah giants and kabbalists of recent generations, and among the most influential leaders of Orthodox Jewry between the two world wars. He was renowned for his encyclopedic mastery of both revealed and hidden Torah, and for his fierce commitment to preserving authentic Jewish tradition without change. He stood at the head of the Orthodox camp in Hungary, vigorously opposing movements he viewed as deviations from ancestral tradition. In 1930 he merited to ascend to Eretz Yisrael, a journey he had long yearned for. He authored many works that became foundational pillars in halachah and Hasidic thought, foremost among them Shu”t Minchas Elazar, Darkei Teshuvah, Shaar Yissachar, and other important sefarim, which continue to be widely studied in the Torah world.
