Ben Poras Yosef. Lemberg, 1848. Second Edition. Important Signature on the Title Page. - Ben Poras Yosef — one of the works of the holy Rebbe, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef HaKohen Katz of Polnoye, author of the renowned Toldos Yaakov Yosef, after which he became universally known as the Baal HaToldos. The author was among the foremost disciples of the Baal Shem Tov zy”a and a close associate of the Maggid of Mezritsh zy”a. His works rank among the earliest printed seforim of Chassidus and thus serve as foundational milestones for the entire corpus of Chassidic thought. Throughout his writings, the author frequently records principles and teachings that he heard directly from his master, the Baal Shem Tov zy”a. The author passed away in Polnoye in the year תקמ”ב [1782]. On the title page appears a signature in the name of Eliezer Fish. It is possible that this refers to the holy Rebbe Rabbi Eliezer Fish, Av Beis Din of Biksad. The holy Rebbe Rabbi Eliezer Fish — Av Beis Din of Biksad (תרמ”ד–תש”ד [1884–1944]): Around the year תרס”ה [1905], he was appointed Rebbe in the town of Biksad in Hungary, and later established a yeshivah in the town of Satmar, where he disseminated Torah and Chassidus to many students.
