Livorno, תק”ב [1742]. First edition. The text of Sefer Tehillim is printed in the center of the page with full punctuation, surrounded by the author’s comprehensive commentary. Fine and impressive printing in a large format. The holy gaon Rabbi Emanuel Chai Riki (תמ”ח–תק”ג) was among the greatest kabbalists of Italy and Eretz Yisrael. He immigrated to Yerushalayim and established a yeshivah and beis medrash there, which in later years became home to the yeshivah of Rabbeinu Chaim ben Attar, author of the Or HaChaim HaKadosh. His works are considered among the foundational texts of Kabbalistic literature, foremost among them the work, Mishnas Chassidim. At the end of the volume appears a moving account written by the author’s son describing his father’s passing. In the year תק”א, the author traveled to Italy in order to support his yeshivah and print his work Chazeh Tzion. On his return journey he was attacked by bandits and murdered after refusing to eat pork. It is further related that after his passing, among his manuscripts was found a dream in which he saw himself as stemming from the soul-root of the Tanna Rabbi Yehudah ben Bava, one of the Asarah Harugei Malchus.
