Important! First Hebrew Print in Basel! Post-Incunable! Rare and Impressive Copy. Tehillim in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. Basel, 1516. - Early Multilingual Edition of Sefer Tehillim, comprising the original Hebrew text alongside a Greek translation and a Latin translation, among the important humanist printings of the early sixteenth century. The volume was arranged in a unique and impressive typographic format: upon opening the book, the Hebrew pages appear on one side, the Greek pages on the other, while the Latin text occupies the center of the volume, allowing for study and comparison between the three versions of Sefer Tehillim. Printed in Basel in 1516, at the renowned press of Johann Froben, among the foremost printers in Europe during the Renaissance, who published the works of leading humanists, foremost among them Erasmus of Rotterdam. Presented here is an early and exceptionally rare post-incunabulum from the formative period of Hebrew printing in Europe. Copies of this edition are scarce on the commercial market, particularly in such fine and impressive condition. Over the years, comparable copies have hardly appeared at public auction, if at all.
