Shu”t Mateh Yosef – Kushta, 1717. Association copy of Rabbi Yisrael Isser Ullmann, father of the gaon Rabbi Shalom Charif – with the stamp of Rabbi Yechiel Michel Teitelbaum of Siget. - Shu”t Mateh Yosef, Part II, by the gaon Rabbi Yosef HaLevi Nazir, Av Beis Din of Egypt, brother of the author of Ginat Vradim and father-in-law of the gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Zain, author of Perach Shoshan. Kushta, 1717. Pedigree copy! On the title page appears an ownership inscription: “For Hashem is the earth and its fullness, Isser Ullman” – the gaon Rabbi Yisrael Isser Ullman, father of the renowned gaon Rabbi Shalom Charif, one of the leading figures in the world of Torah in Ashkenaz and Hungary in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His son, the gaon Rabbi Shalom Ullman, author of Divrei R”Sh (1755–1825), known as “R’ Shalom Charif, ” was among the greatest geonim of his generation. He studied under the author of Zikaron Yosef, the author of Hafla’ah, and the gaon Rabbi Natan Adler, and served as rabbi in Ansbach, Stamfen, Nagy-Atad, Frauenkirchen, and Lackenbach. His sharpness became proverbial, and the Chasam Sofer held him in great esteem. His disciple, author of Tzror HaChaim, testified that he possessed a soul akin to that of the Tanna Rabbi Akiva. After his passing, his novellae were printed in Divrei R”Sh, among the most incisive and profound works in rabbinic literature. On the title page also appears the stamp of the bachur ha’kadosh Yechiel Michel Teitelbaum, son of the Rebbe Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Teitelbaum, author of Atzei Chaim of Sziget, and grandson of the author of Kedushas Yom Tov, son of the author of Yetev Lev. Additional ownership inscription: “the holy Mordechai Cohen Adler.” New leather binding. Collation: [2], 54, 57–101 leaves. Paper repairs to title page with minor loss of text. Age stains, mainly in the initial leaves. Condition: good.
