Zeved Tov – Pirkei Hatzlachah, the celebrated philosophical-religious epistle attributed to the Rambam. Josefov, [1840]. Pirkei Hatzlachah is a celebrated philosophical-religious epistle traditionally attributed to the Rambam. The work discusses the true nature of human success, emphasizing that genuine success lies in spiritual and intellectual perfection, the service of Hashem lishmah, and distancing oneself from worldly desires and the pursuit of honor and authority. The work is known as Pirkei Hatzlachah, and is also referred to as Perakim BeHatzlachah. In the present edition it appears on the title page and heading under the title ”Zeved Tov.” This title is the result of a printer's error, as it was printed together with Zeved Tov by Rabbi Yaakov Chagiz, which in this copy has its own separate title page. First printed in Salonika in 1567 (as an appendix to Sefer HaGedorim by Rabbi Menachem mi-Perpignan). The work was originally composed in Arabic. According to the Chida in Shem HaGedolim, the work was written by Rabbi Moshe ben Rabbi Yaakov of Kiev, who lived approximately 350 years after the Rambam. By contrast, the Maharam Alashkar maintained that the Rambam was its author. In Responsum no. 117, he cites the work as evidence that the Rambam ”followed the path of Kabbalah.” Minor worming, otherwise very good condition. Renewed binding. 17 leaves.
