Jack Bookbinder Mexican Shawl Oil Painting
Item/Description: Masterful portrait oil on board painting of a young woman wrapped in a red shawl cloak by renowned artist, Jack Bookbinder (1911-1993, Pennsylvania, Ukraine). Vivid colors, bold hues, skillful use of light and shadow. Evocative. Artist signed lower right: bookbinder. On reverse (in part): " Mexican Shawl by Jack Bookbinder oil". Set into an ornate carved wood frame. Painted gilt inner border. Rustic. border resembling trees.
Jack Bookbinder (Ukraine, 1911-1993), Although born abroad, Bookbinder's life and career were spent in the city of Philadelphia. He has pursued dual careers throughout his life: educator and artist. Bookbinder works in the watercolor, lithographs, oil and casein. It was not until late 1940s that he began to participate extensively in exhibitions, and his work has been widely shown, and frequently honored since.

Condition: Very good. Paint intact, colors vivid. Free of chips, cracks. Signs of surface, age and use wear including scuffs, scratches to frame.
