Italian MCM Marcello Fantoni Ceramic Leather Dish - Item/Description: Elongated Mid Century leather-backed ceramic dish with a abstract still-life motif by renowned Italian ceramic artist, Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011) known for his bold innovative designs and masterful technique. The brightly colored dish depicts an abstract still-life of a pitcher, wine, pomegranate and pear. Fantoni experimented with glazing, firing methods and sculptural forms. His pieces often featured intricate surface decorations, such as sgraffito or incised designs, giving his works a distinctive, tactile quality. Marcelo Fantoni is widely regarded as one of the most important ceramic artists of the 20th century.
