Antoine Knibily Winterscape Oil on Canvas - Item/Description: Signed acrylic on canvas Winterscape by renowned French Post-War and Contemporary artist, Antoine Knibily (b. 1920). Serene scene depicts fur trees, snow capped mountains and a strolling couple dressed in winter garb. Blue-hued painting beautifully captures the frosty Winter season. Broad, broad impasto brushstrokes. Artist signed lower left Knibily. Unframed. Antoine Knibily was born in Colmar (Alsace) in 1920. A deeply religious person, he began his life as a priest and moved to Chile to live and work amongst the most impoverished population. After experiencing the ”complete exhaustion of his nerves, ” Knibily moved to New York in an effort to forget about the human suffering he had witnessed. It was there where Knibily found a different path to salvation and joy: through painting. His works, with their thick brushstrokes and bold hues, are soulful, evocative and inspirational.
