Antoine-Louis Barye - Bronze Centaur Sculpture - Item/Description: Cast patinated bronze ”Theseus Fighting the Centaur Bianor.” Mythological, figural sculpture depicting the Greek hero Theseus in a fight to the death against the mythical creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body and legs of a horse. BARYE incised at base. Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875) was a pioneering French sculptor and the father of the Animalier (animal sculpture) movement, celebrated for his lifelike and dynamic animal depictions, often capturing wild animals in dramatic poses.
