The helmet shell is made from a durable, heat-resistant phenolic or fiberglass material, originally a ”pressed fiber” or Bakelite compound known for its ruggedness in high-temperature environments such as steel mills and mines. The specific helmet is painted red with a vertical white stripe down the center, a common practice in industrial or fire brigade settings to denote a specific role or rank, and features the hand-painted initials ”ASF” on the stripe, likely identifying the owner or a specific workgroup.
