John P. Hagen Fulper Pottery Liquor Jugs - Item/Description: John P. Hagen Cedar Grove Sour Mash advertising jugs, a type of collectible stoneware whiskey bottle. It is a rare, hand-decorated jug made of a two-toned brown salt-glazed stoneware with a cream glaze and gilt rim with matching calligraphy lettering and hand-painted floral details. John P. Hagen was a whiskey blender and wholesale liquor house owner in Lafayette, Indiana. He operated his business between 1874 until he passed away in 1899, when his brother took over the company until Prohibition in 1920. The company was known for using attractive ceramic containers for his products, often sourcing them from Pennsylvania and New Jersey pottery companies. These particular jars come from the Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, New Jersey.
