Bidspirit auction | Indian Lohar Iron Bell Wind

Indian Lohar Iron Bell Wind Chime - Item/Description: Vintage hand-wrought iron with a naturally aged rusty patina, featuring thirteen small metal cow bells or ”nana” bells. Mid-to-late 20th century. The chime consists of nested heart-shaped frames, each adorned with multiple small, cylindrical bells suspended from iron rings. Crafted using Lohar blacksmith traditions from the Kutch region of Gujarat in India, where iron sheets are beaten into bell shapes and ”baked” in a furnace to achieve a distinctive copper-salt patina. Traditionally, these bells were utilized as livestock identifiers, but transitioned into decorative arts throughout the 20th century and evolved into symbolic household objects used to invite positive energy and provide spiritual protection.
