French Belle Epoque Gilt Jewelry Casket - Item/Description: French miniature portrait jewelry casket on elevated scroll feet. Late Victorian to Belle Epoque era, circa 1880-1900. Gilt-metal with multi-colored detailing, heavily decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves, vines, and floral patterns. Inserted portrait displays a gentleman wearing a periwig, a hairstyle popular in the 18th century. A popular European parlor accessory that served as decorative desk pieces for holding small mementos, stamps, trinkets, or jewelry.
