Lunacharsky, the Soviet People's Commissar of Enlightenment, such collections were often produced for international diplomatic or cultural exchange to showcase the ”Treasures of the Republics.” The portfolio contains loose color plates featuring masterpieces from the Hermitage, Pushkin State Museum, and Tretyakov Gallery, ranging from Old Masters to early Socialist Realism. The distressed black cover features a constructivist-inspired red typeface, characteristic of early Soviet graphic design.
