Meiji Period Japanese Satsuma Tripod Vase - Item/Description: Japanese Satsuma moriage tripod vase, Meiji Period, circa 1868-1912. Earthenware vase featuring a distinctive multi-lobed, ruffled rim, and extensive moriage raised enamel decoration. Ovoid body is densely embellished with a complex brocade ground, featuring overlapping fan-shaped pictorial panels depicting traditional mountain landscapes and a powerful, high-relief ascending dragon. Neck is further ornamented with large sculptural floral blossoms and foliage. Vessel is supported by an attached base elevated on sculpted shishi (guardian lion) feet. Material: Earthenware Dimensions: Diameter: 6 7/8”; Height: 15 1/8” Condition: Signs of age, use, and wear include staining, crazing, rubbing, and markings to base.
