Antique Chinese Rice Measuring Bucket - Item/Description: Antique Chinese wooden rice bucket (dou). Late Qing, early 20th century. Primitive hand-joined wooden staves, secured with forged iron banding and rivets for structural integrity under heavy loads. Characters painted on sides. Used for utilitarian taxation and commerce tools used for measuring dry grain. The central wooden bar served a dual purpose: acting as a sturdy carrying handle and a leveling guide to ensure an honest, flat-topped measurement of rice or grain.
