Antique Japanese Bronze Bonsho Temple Bell - Item/Description: Antique Japanese cast bronze temple bell (bonsho), likely dating from the Edo to Meiji period (19th century). Ritual Buddhist bell features a traditional heavy, domed form crowned by a ryuzu (dragon-headed suspension loop) and upper panels decorated with raised nyu (bosses or studs) representing mystical energy points. The lower skirt is cast with low-relief waves and traditional scroll borders, modeled after the monumental bells used historically in East Asian temples to mark time and call monks to meditation.
