Mid-Century Alsta 17-Jewel Swiss Travel Clock - Item/Description: Vintage mid-century Alsta Swiss-made 17-jewel mechanical travel clock featuring a square cream dial with applied gold Arabic hour numerals, leaf hands, and a 6 o'clock alarm sub-register. The assembly is enclosed in a stainless steel inner case integrated onto a spring-loaded, chrome-plated dual-wing chassis wrapped in textured brown alligator-grain leather. Pressing the lower release tabs automatically retracts the protective leather wings to form a freestanding easel base, instantly converting the impact-resistant purse watch into a stable travel alarm clock. Produced for Alsta, a highly successful mid-century brand marketed directly by its parent entity, the Alstater Watch Corporation of New York. Founded by Joseph Alstater in 1946, the company specialized in importing robust, high-grade Swiss watch movements to fulfill the demands of the post-war global traveler.
