Ornate shell depicts a lively Bacchanalian theme, showcasing three deeply sculpted classical putti or cherubs playfully climbing through a dense canopy of ripe grape clusters and sprawling vine leaves. Design reflects the ornate Rococo Revival aesthetic popular in Victorian-era decorative arts. Fitted with a circular Roman numeral dial and an integrated lower pendulum viewing aperture, this historic Antebellum timepiece represents a premier example of pre-Civil War American decorative casting and industrial parlor design.
