1920s Elgin 8-Day Automobile Dashboard Clock - Item/Description: 1920s antique Elgin National Watch Co. 8-day mechanical automobile dashboard clock, featuring a crisp cream dial with bold Arabic numerals and a top-register seconds sub-dial. The time-piece retains its original, extended lower winding stem and textured adjustment knob designed for under-dash installation.Marked ”ELGIN”. This specific dashboard variation features an integrated, elongated winding stem extending straight downward from the 6 o'clock position. This specialized horological instrument holds immense historical relevance within early American automotive development. Produced during the booming Roaring Twenties era of classic motorcars, including early models from Cadillac, Packard, and Pierce-Arro, the extended lower stem was specifically engineered to protrude safely below the lower lip of a wooden or steel dashboard frame.
