Bidspirit auction | Antique Hubley Cast Iron Navy

Antique Hubley Cast Iron Navy Sailor Coin Bank - Item/Description: Early 20th-century still bank cast in the patriotic form of a World War I-era U.S. Navy sailor in a traditional white and blue uniform, executing a formal hand salute while leaning against a large upright ship's oar. Originally introduced by the renowned Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, this two-part split-mold figure features a rear-mounted coin drop slot integrated into the shoulders. Nautical motif reflects early 20th-century American military folk art and industrial metal toy manufacturing. Distributed during the patriotic World War I homefront era, production at the Hubley foundry phased out by the mid-1930s as manufacturing shifted toward modern toy designs.
