Antique Union Glass Works PA Cobalt IP Soda Bottle - Item/Description: Antique American iron-ponitiled soda bottle, circa 1847-1855. Hand-blown in a heavy two-piece iron mold, this cylindrical ”pony” style utility vessel features a deeply saturated royal cobalt blue glass composition. Marked with raised block embossing stating ”J.P. BENJAMIN / 13 STATE ST, N.Y.” and ”UNION GLASS WORKS / PHILADELPHIA”. Made in Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under the prominent pre-Civil War glassmaking partnership of Hartell & Lancaster, this historic piece was commissioned for a mid-19th century Manhattan soda water distributor and finishes with a thick, hand-applied blob-top lip. (Vintage Advertising, Americana, Iron Pontil, Antebellum Era, Victorian) Material: Glass Dimensions: Diameter: 2 5/8”; Height: 7 1/4” Condition: Signs of age, use, and wear include marking, scuffing, hazing, surface wear, dirt residue.
