1850s Dean & Paxton NJ Cobalt IP Soda Bottle - Item/Description: Antique American mineral water / soda bottle manufactured for Dean & Paxton of Newark, New Jersey, circa 1850s. Hand-blown in a heavy two-piece iron mold, this cylindrical ”pony” style utility vessel features a highly prized, deeply saturated royal cobalt blue glass composition. The front face is boldly dressed with raised block embossing stating ”DEAN & PAXTON / NEWARK / N.J.”, representing an early mid-19th-century regional carbonated beverage distributor. Operating during the American Antebellum period, the Dean & Paxton partnership was a prominent local enterprise specializing in bottling refreshing mineral waters and sodas for the growing industrial workforce of Newark. It features a robust, hand-applied tapered blob-top lip finish with a heavy iron pontil scar on its base.
