T. & R. Morton NJ Antebellum Cobalt Soda Bottle - Item/Description: American mineral water / soda bottle manufactured for T. & R. Morton of Newark, New Jersey, circa 1850s. Hand-blown in a heavy iron mold, this cylindrical ”pony” style utility vessel features a deeply saturated cobalt blue glass composition. Marked and embossed ”T. & R. MORTON / NEWARK / N.J.”, which represents one of the region's prominent early beverage distribution dynasties known for distributing high-quality mineral water, soda, and beer during the American Antebellum period. Bottle features a robust, hand-applied tapered blob-top lip finish and showcases a distinct mid-19th-century character with visible mold seams and enclosed factory air bubbles.
