Ridgway & Abington ”Bulrush” Stoneware Pitcher - Item/Description: Victorian relief-moulded ”Bulrush” stoneware pitcher. Manufactured in Staffordshire, England by Ridgway & Abington at their Church Works factory in Hanley. The specific patent design for this naturalistic pattern was officially registered on March 7, 1848. Features a highly organic, naturalistic theme depicting heavily raised, crisp relief-moulded cattails/bulrushes and long, sweeping reeds wrapping entirely around the bulbous body. Crafted from a pale sage gray stoneware using a smear-glazing technique. This process gives the exterior a smooth, matte finish that highlights the sharp details of the mould, while leaving a glossy, fully glazed interior to hold liquids safely.
