Brocklehurst-Whiston Woven Silk Pictures - Item/Description: Three vintage woven silk images by Brocklehurst Fabrics, Macclesfield England (Post Victorian era Brocklehurst-Whiston Amalgamated Limited BWA). Includes ”Hurdsfield House, 1890” (blue dress) 1950, ”The Goods Wharf” 1951 and Prestbury Village (with minicar) 1962. ”Hurdsfield House, 1890” portrays an elegant Victorian scene of ice skaters in front of Hurdsfield House, the ancestral 18th-century home of the prominent Brocklehurst silk-manufacturing family. ”The Goods Wharf”: The Macclesfield Canal was constructed in 1831 and until the opening of the railways, Brocklehurst Silks were shipped from the Goods Wharf, Brook Street, to all parts of the country. The barge featured was owned by John Green (Carriers), Macclesfield. The name ”Julia”, which appears on the barge, was the name of John Green's daughter. ”Prestbury Village” Cheshire England: Three miles from Macclesfield lies the ancient and beautiful village of Prestbury. The black and white timbered building which faces the parish Church of St. Peter with its Norman Chapel is the old Priest's House.
