Brownell - Large Hand-Carved Fish Effigy - Item/Description: Large studio art hand-carved fish sculpture, depicting a coelacanth, a prehistoric deep-sea fish species famously rediscovered alive in 1938. Hand-whittled from a solid block of wood, the sculpture replicates the fish's distinct anatomical features, including its characteristic lobed fins and heavy jawline. The underside features a prominent, deeply carved signature reading ”J. Brownell / 91 / #3,” indicating it was the third piece produced in a limited series.
