Chinese Engraved Brass & Jade Matchbox Case - Item/ Description: Early 20th-century scholar's desk or smoking accessory is designed as a sleeve to house a standard rectangular matchbox, sliding over the cardboard chassis to expose the striking strip through the elongated side cutout apertures. Top surface features a rectangular, openwork plaque of translucent celadon-white jade, meticulously pierced and carved to depict traditional floral and foliage motifs. Heavy brass frame is ornamented with fine, hand-engraved scrolling vines and chrysanthemums, resting on four small bracket feet stamped with geometric Greek key fretwork design.
