The design features a thick slab of white Carrara marble supporting dual circular brass weighing plates on cast iron posts, centered by an oval brass escutcheon plate stamped for La Maison Beranger, Usines de la Mulatiere - Lyon with a five-kilogram capacity. This specialized auxiliary leveling link mechanism revolutionized daily European commerce by ensuring uniform force distribution and accurate measurements regardless of off-center weight placement.
