Shulchan Aruch HaRav, Laws of Shabbat – with the stamp of the holy Rabbi Shimon Nosson Nota of Lelov [the first] - Rabbi Shimon Nosson Nota Biderman (18 Iyar 1869 – 3 Tishrei 1930) was the fifth Rebbe of Lelov. He was born in Jerusalem to Rabbi David Tzvi Shlomo Biderman, and was named after Rabbi Shimon bar Yoḥai and after his grandfather Rabbi Nosson Nota of Chelm. He married the daughter of Rabbi Yosef Tzeinvirt of Kraków. He was among the sages of Yeshivat Sha’ar HaShamayim. He traveled on visits to Poland in the years 1893, 1906, and 1913. During his travels he stayed for long periods with his Rebbe, “the Yenuka, ” Rabbi Yisrael of Stolin. On his last visit, when he was unable to return to the Land of Israel due to the First World War, he settled in Kraków. After the passing of his father on 5 Elul 1918, he began to serve as Rebbe, while still residing in Kraków. In 1926 he returned to the Land of Israel, where the ḥasidim of his father and additional followers gathered around him. The holy Rabbi Shlom’ke of Zvihil, related: “In my dream, they showed me a pleasant and sweet prayer at the gateway of Gan Eden, the like of which had never been heard. They said to me: these prayers pierce the heavens from Jerusalem below. When he awoke from his sleep, R. Shlom’ke went to seek the source of this remarkable prayer. When he passed by the beit midrash of Rabbi Shimon Nosson Nota of Lelov, he stopped and said: this is the prayer I heard in Gan Eden…” In a letter [attached] regarding the holy possessions and books of his father, Rabbi Shimon Nosson Nota writes: “The smallest of them is precious to me more than all the wealth in the world!!”
