On the title page a woodcut of Moses and Aaron. Fürth, 1781. First edition. The responsa of the Radbaz were printed in several editions, each printer according to the manuscripts available to him. This volume includes approximately two hundred and fifty responsa numbered here (according to the manuscript from which they were printed) as simanim 400–449 (in the Warsaw edition 1882 and onward these responsa were numbered as simanim 843–1004). The great Gaon Rabbi David ben Zimra (1479–1573), among the earliest of the Acharonim and the great halachic authorities, was born in Spain, and at the time of the expulsion moved to Morocco and from there to the Land of Israel. He then left for Egypt and served there as the chief rabbi. At the end of his life he returned to the Land of Israel and is buried in Safed. He authored various works, but his principal fame rests on his responsa, which encompass all areas of Torah. Among his disciples are counted the great men of the following generation, among them R. Betzalel Ashkenazi, author of “Shitah Mekubbetzet”, and the holy Arizal. Stefansky, Fundamental Works 281. Vinograd Fürth 542.
