Pa’amonei Zahav — commentary on Psalms By R. David Katz, dayan of Kratzin - Fürth 1769 - Unique edition. - Pa’amonei Zahav, a commentary on Tehillim. By Rabbi David Katz, dayan in Kratzin, descendant of the Sema and the Bach. Fürth 1769. Unique edition. An important and rare work. The author fell gravely ill, near unto death — and was healed; as an offering of thanks to God he composed this commentary to Tehillim, and writes: “כי בטוח אני בחסד עליון – מי שיקרא בו לשמה, יתעורר עצמו ליראה ולתשובה”!! From the title page and the approbations it becomes clear that the author had also composed a large work on the Torat ha-Olah of the Rema, entitled Minḥat Kohen, and he hoped through this volume to obtain support for the printing of that larger work. The book is adorned with important approbations: Rabbi Yaakov Lew of Brody, Rabbi Binyamin Katzenelbogen, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Zamość, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch son of Avraham of Zülz, Rabbi Mattityahu Neugreschel of Prague, and others — foremost among them the gaon Rabbi Yeḥezkel Landau, author of the Noda BiYehudah, together with his court. The Noda BiYehudah was known as the leading opponent of the nascent Ḥasidic movement, and even in his approbation to this work he writes:   “הכל דרך דרוש קרוב לפשוטו, ואינו מקדים הקדמות זרות או דברי נסתרות אשר בעוו״ה פשתה המספחת הזו בדור הזה וגורם ביטול תורה לשכוח לימוד הנחמד התלמוד והפוסקים המקובל וודאי בידינו מדור דור עד ”הל״מ.
