Rabbi Yechiel Heller: The celebrated gaon Rabbi Yechiel Heller, of the lineage of the Tosafot Yom Tov, was famed already in his youth for his extraordinary gifts and was known as the prodigy of Koidanov. Even at a young age he was regarded as one of the great scholars of his generation, and difficult questions of agunot were brought before him from afar. He served as rabbi in Plungyany for three years until his sudden passing at only forty-seven. The present work, Amudei Or, was published while he sat on the rabbinate of Suwałki, where he served nearly five years. The gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber of Kamenitz said of this work that its title is apt indeed — Amudei Or, “pillars of light.”
