Haggadat ha-Meva’er — Piotrków 1914, with the author’s dedication - Haggadat ha-Meva’er, an important Haggadah with extensive commentaries and many additions, by the gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Weingort, dayan of Radom. Piotrków, 1914. Beyond the title page appears a heading entitled “ה' ניסי, ” which reads: בליל ש”ק בסדר והנה אימה חשכה גדולה שנת ראינו רע”ה היינו בסכנה גדולה אנכי וידינ”פ הרב המאה”ג המפורסם ר' אהרן הכהן נ”י מו”צ הישיש דפה כידוע לכל יושבי עירנו פה, אשר בא לנו ע”י האיש הידוע, וכפסע בין המות ח”ו, והש”י כרוב רחמיו הטה אלינו חסד ונתן אותנו לרחמים לפני השר להחיות את נפשותינו, וביום ד' בסדר ותחי נפשי בחמשה עשר יום בחורש מרחשוון באה הפקודה מהשר ע”י הטע”ג להוציא אותנו מבית האסורים.... Dedication: On the flyleaf appears a long dedication: ”שלוחה היא למנה, מזכרת אהבה וברכה, להגביר הנכבד וותיק וחסיד מו”ה דוב בעריל נ”י ראזענמאן באוסראווצע. ולראיה באעה”ח פה ראדום ה' בסדר זה ספר תולדות ”אד”ם”. המחבר”. Later the owner added: ”למזכרת נצח, מעזבון המנוח החסיד הישיש ר' דוב בער ב”ר יעקב אשר ראזנמאן מאסטראווצע, משה גדלי' מרקוביץ”. Rabbi Menachem Mendel Weingort was born in 1858, and served as head of the rabbinical court in Radom. At the end of the Haggadah is printed a separate treatise concerning machine matzah and ”skladova” matzah-bakeries. Rabbi Weingort perceived grave halakhic problems in the matzah bakeries of Poland, and concluded that although most authorities — including the Avnei Nezer — had forbidden machine matzot, nevertheless, given that the majority of Jews were eating matzot presumed to be ḥametz, the rabbis were obligated to permit machine matzot. The Shem mi-Shmuel, son of the Avnei Nezer, opposed his conclusion, and sharp letters were exchanged between them. Also preserved are additional historical and fascinating letters on the subject of machine matzah and the state of kashrut in Poland in his era.
