A significant and desirable copy of the first edition of Or Zarua Part III, with major haskamot and important provenance. - Or Zarua, Part III — Jerusalem 1887 (תרמ״ז) — First Edition Printed by Ḥayyim Hirschensohn A rare and important printing history milestone. Description: Sefer Or Zarua, composed by R. Yitzḥak ben Moshe of Vienna (“the Or Zarua”), one of the greatest early Ashkenazic halachic authorities, was printed here for the first time from an ancient manuscript preserved in the British Museum. This volume (Part III) is accompanied by glosses of R. Yaakov Mordechai Hirschensohn. In the publisher’s introduction: “The first two volumes were printed in Zhitomir in 1864 from a manuscript in the possession of R. Akiva Lehren of Amsterdam. This part, however, I merited to bring to print for the first time — I, the humble Binyamin son of R. Shimon Yekutiel Pozna Posen of Frankfurt am Main.” Rabbinic Approvals (Haskamot): This volume includes a remarkable set of approbations from many of the greatest rabbinic leaders of the era: R. Provenance Ownership inscription: “הק' דוד צבי בוימגארטען” This refers to R. David Tzvi Baumgarten, son of the renowned Torah scholar R. Yosef Baumgarten, rabbi of the historic “Adas Israel – Shifschul” community of Vienna.
