Tiferet Uziel – Bilgoraj, 1910 - Tiferet Uziel Rabbi Uziel Meizlish, Av Beit Din of Osrovetz, Ritschval, and Ir Chadash, disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch Bilgoraj, 1910 Part I, and in the second part – a new title page Distinguished provenance, with mystical inscriptions. R. Uziel Meizlish (1744 – 28 Kislev 1786), who had yet seen the Baal Shem Tov, was a disciple of the Great Maggid. He was close with the great tzaddikim of Chassidus: Rabbi Shmuel Shmelke of Nikolsburg, Rabbi Pinchas Horowitz, Rabbi Meshulam Zusha of Anipoli, Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, and Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, who revered him greatly and testified of him that “he never tasted the taste of sin in his life”. They also referred to him as “Eved Hashem”, an acronym of his name “Uziel ben Drezil” (publisher’s introduction to the sefer). He authored important works on Talmudic topics [Kerem Shlomo, Tiferet Tzvi, Etz HaDa’at Tov] and on the laws of Shabbat [Menorah HaTehorah]. Among his disciples were the holy Rabbi Fishel of Strikov and the author of Arvei Nachal. In this work, Rabbi Uziel quotes many sayings from his teachers, the disciples of the Baal Shem Tov and the Maggid of Mezeritch, as well as teachings of the great sages of the later generations. He frequently employs parables in the sefer and even relates matters revealed to him in dreams. In one place he records a dialogue shown to him in a dream between the Holy One, blessed be He, and the people of Israel, who beg for redemption, while God responds that He is with them in every place Approbations: The Chiddushei HaRim – 27 Tammuz 1862 The Divrei Chaim – 12 Elul 1863 The Rebbe R. Yaakov Aryeh of Radzymin in Warsaw – 24 Tammuz 1862 Owners: On the first title page, erased signatures and stamps, aside from the word “Pabianice” in Latin characters in two stamps On the second page of the approbations: ”יצחק מאיר בן ר' יעקב הכהן שאטטאן” [In the sefer Zikaron Yosef by Rabbi Yosef Yoskowitz of Lodz, two Torah letters addressed to him are found, see Beit Yosef, §§32–33] ”שמחה ברא”ל ז”ל פאפיערניק” Also signed at the end of Part I, p. 112, in Latin script. Again on the title page of the second part: ”שמחה פאפיערניק מזאלשין כעת בפאביאניץ” And again his signature in Cyrillic letters. In the handwriting of this same Simcha Papiernik, on the rear flyleaf, appears a charm against the evil eye “in the name of the holy and righteous rabbi R’ M.M. of Riminov, of blessed memory”, and a remedy for toothache “in the name of the holy and righteous rabbi, the Mahar”i of Ruzhin, of blessed memory”.
