Budapest 1924 Rabbi Shalom Yitzchak Levitan (1878 – 1941) was the rabbi of Voriana and Meishad in Lithuania, and later became the rabbi of the city of Oslo, capital of Norway. Editor of “HaMagid (Maggid Yerachim)”, author of the books ‘Divrei Shalom’ and ‘Yalkut HaDerush’. In 1931 he was appointed to the rabbinate of Shvokshna and returned to Lithuania. He perished in the Holocaust in Heidekrug (Shilute) in the summer of 1941. In this copy is the author’s stamp, and a dedication he wrote in 1924 to his friend the Gaon Rabbi Shalom Gershon Kav, Rabbi of Payura in Lithuania. Rabbi Shalom Gershon ascended to Jerusalem that same year, and the Sheinker rabbinic family are his descendants.
