Attributed to Christoph Paudiss (1625–1666) – Anxious Thinker, 17th Century - Dutch School, 17th Century Oil on canvas mounted on panel 53 x 47.5 cm unframed 63 x 57 cm framed Christoph Paudiss (Lower Saxony, 1630 – Freising, Upper Bavaria, 1666) was a German Baroque painter, a pupil of Rembrandt van Rijn in Amsterdam. After working in Stuttgart (1656), Prague, Dresden (1659–1660), Vienna, and Salzburg, he spent his last four years in Freising, where he worked for Archbishop Albrecht Sigismund von Bayern. He was married twice. Throughout his life, he faced financial difficulties. His oil and fresco paintings depict dark scenes of everyday life. His genre paintings, rural stories, and still lifes are renowned; he also painted portraits. The Diocesan Museum of Freising holds the largest collection of his works (15 in total); other pieces are distributed across Europe.
