NICOLÁS AND JUAN RODRÍGUEZ JUÁREZ (Viceroyalty of New Spain, c. 1720) - Saint Matthew and Saint Gregory the Great
Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 165 x 106.5 cm. Inscribed: "Doctrina Angelica eres quanta aqui escribe inspirado del espiritu sagrado Gregorio Segun San Matheo".
The study of the piece was conducted by Francisco Montes González, University of Seville. From both a stylistic and compositional perspective, the work presented here shares similarities with two pieces attributed to Nicolás and Juan Rodríguez Juárez: a "Saint Peter" and a "Saint Andrew." These works are housed in the Museum of the Americas in Madrid and the Regional Museum of Guadalajara, Mexico, respectively.
