Howdy Doody is part of the Myths series, composed of ten iconic images that reflect Warhol's unerring sense of the most potent cultural symbols of his time. The figures depicted—drawn from 1950s television and classic Hollywood cinema—evoke a collective vision of America's idealized past. Along with Howdy Doody, the series includes characters such as Mickey Mouse, Santa Claus, Dracula, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Uncle Sam, each representing different facets of Warhol's own personality. Warhol created Myths in the early 1980s, one of his most prolific periods, during which he perfected his screenprinting technique and produced works of great complexity.
