Attributed to Christoph Paudiss (1625-1666) - Anxious Thinker, 17th Century - Dutch School, 17th Century Oil on canvas mounted on panel 53 x 47.5 cm unframed 63 x 57 cm framed Christopher Paudiss (Lower Saxony, 1630 - Freising (Upper Bavaria), 1666) was a German Baroque painter, a pupil in Amsterdam of Rembrandt van Rijn. After working in Stuttgart (1656), Prague, Dresden (1659-1660), Vienna and Salzburg, he spent his last four years in Freising, where he worked for Archbishop Albrecht Sigismund von Bayern. He married twice. Throughout his life, he faced financial difficulties. His oil and fresco paintings depict dark images of everyday life. His genre paintings, rural stories, and still lifes are famous; he also painted portraits. The Freisinger Diocesan Museum owns the largest collection of his works (15 in total); other works are spread throughout Europe.
