Attributed to Domenico Zampieri, ”Il Domenichino” (Bologna, 1581-Naples 1641) Holy Family - Oil on canvas, dimensions: 145 x 130 cm, framed dimensions: 160 x 145 cm. Born in Bologna, the son of a shoemaker, he was initially apprenticed to Denys Calvaert. He soon left to work at the Accademia degli Incamminati of the Carracci brothers. Upon moving to Rome in 1601, he became one of the most talented apprentices in Annibale Carracci's circle, working alongside great contemporaries such as Albani and Guido Reni, as well as rivals such as Lanfranco. Due to his height, he was nicknamed Domenichino (”little Dominic”). The Museo del Prado holds four of his works (two with religious themes: The Sacrifice of Isaac and The Apparition of the Angels to Saint Jerome) and two drawings. Not far from there, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando preserves a Head of the Baptist, which was given to the Academy by the Infante Francisco de Paula de Borbón.
