Crivelli's authorship is supported not only by the subject and motifs depicted—wild birds in a naturalistic landscape—but also by the technical quality, the liveliness of his strokes, and his extraordinary skill in depicting animals. Specializing in hunting scenes and ornithological compositions, Crivelli developed a refined style of painting that bears the influence of the great Flemish masters such as Hondecoeter, Weenix, Snyders, and Fyt, whose formal solutions he reinterpreted with his own unique flair. His technique is distinguished by the precise use of lacquers and glazes, a subtly calibrated chromatic richness, and expressive drawing, already praised by his biographer Orlandi.
