Virgin and Child. Andean Viceregal School. 18th century - Oil on canvas depicting the seated Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus on her lap, both crowned and dressed in robes adorned with gold embroidery. The frontal composition, highly symmetrical and solemn, reflects the Marian models of viceregal art, in which the figure is presented as a spiritual throne and symbol of heavenly royalty. The neutral, dark, and deep background enhances the luminosity of the faces and textiles, while the color palette, with a predominance of ochre, vermillion, and gold details, recalls the colonial workshops of the Altiplano and the Viceroyalty of Peru. The delicacy of the faces and the compositional balance reveal a sober yet expressive workmanship that combines devotion and majesty. This work is in line with the traditional iconography of the Virgin and Child as intercessor and spiritual queen. Dimensions: 64 x 52 cm.
